Happy as a sand boy I was on Friday – I was one of the first people in France to receive a new 5D MkII! However, I wasn’t to remain on the beach for long…
I put the battery on charge as soon as I got home and then later on, once the little one was in bed, I sat down to play with my new toy.
I turned it on and then I started working my way through the manual to see what was new. Auto ISO seemed interesting1, so I switched to aperture priority with Auto ISO and then metered different parts of my living room at different zoom setting. The camera cunningly chose a hand-holdable shutter speed and then increased the ISO appropriately – very nice. I thought I’d take a photo:
Me: Click.
Brand spanking new 5D Mk II: “Err 30 – shooting is not possible”.
What? What’s that? Shooting. Is. Not. Possible.
Panic. Yes, panicking was definitly possible even if shooting wasn’t.
I turned the camera off and on again. Same thing. I took the battery out and then put it back in again. Same thing. I tried different lenses – to no avail. I shot without the compact flash card to make sure that that wasn’t the cause – it wasn’t. I then searched the Internet for “Err 30″ – I couldn’t be the only one surely? It seems that I was.
The Canon USA web site mentions Error 30 (along with 10, 20 and 40) without explaining what it actually means, and simply says to contact Canon. Great help.
Canon France was closed at this time so my wife convinced me to call the USA tech support (I get free calls to the USA, so it wasn’t just a fit of indulgence). To their credit the support was excellent; they were willing to help me despite my European origins and a very helpful and sympathic tech support man walked me through a number of steps to try to reset the camera but in the end it all made no difference.
The camera was, as I had feared, dead.
On Saturday I took it back to my (now shocked) dealer and he’ll send it back to Canon. He assures me that the next 5D Mk II to walk through the shop entrance will be mine, but they’re few and far between so I could be in for a bit of a wait…
Has anyone else seen this problem yet?
- except in manual mode, which I use most of the time… [↩]
I have err 30 on my mkii
Well, that two of us then
To be fair, it seems rare.
I just got one as well. Bummer.
Me too. Just started yesterday, in abnormally cold weather (by Seattle standards)
I’m checking around the web for more info, found your site…
Got my 5d mk ll last week and went to Australia. Was shooting from a helicopter and after about 250 shots I stArted getting err 30. Thought of might have been the 31c heat. After removing battery it would shoot a few frames and then err put again.
2days later it is still happening
Same problem with 3different lenses and 4 cf cards, extreme lll sandisks
Reset camera to factory settings, no help
I am here for 3 more weeks. Any help would be appreciated. Please reply to
dherbig@gmail.com
Thanks

Hi,
This must be very frustrating for you. It does appear to be an internal error – and a rare one at that. Not that that’ll make you feel any better about it. I’m afraid that you’ll need to send it back to Canon.
I have error 30 problems with my new 5D mk2 also. Camera seemed fine for about 2 weeks, but I did have some shots where
the shutter sounded odd. Got an error 30 and it cleared by turning off and on. Got another one and did the cycle of off & on again but did not clear the error.
Recharged battery and got a few shots before it failed again . . . permanent. Canon USA support claimed he hadn’t received a complaint like mine before.
He said to try pulling card, battery, and the clock battery and leave it set for 25 minutes. That has not worked so it’s returning it to seller for exchange (which is a joke because of the stock problem) OR to Canon service which is backlogged about 3 weeks because of Xmas. I am getting suspect that Canon has a shutter related problem with the initial production of the 5D mk2 and that is why the dealers are very short on delivery. I have shot only Canon for the last 35 years and this is my first problem . . . it’s also my most expensive photo purchase (with the exception of my 500mm f4). Google search with Canon error 30 is starting to show several hits. I have this rotten feeling. When you have an error 30 it appears your camera is dead, or SOON to be DEAD. Oh, and yes I changed lenses (all Canon “L”), batteries, cards and nothing solved the problem. UPS here I come and my OLD 5D is not going to be sold for awhile!!
Same here. Tried everything per Canon’s website, errors are getting more frequent, if anything…
From the day I shipped until the day I got it back . . . was about 3 weeks.
Canon replaced the shutter.
Shipping and tons of INSURANCE was about $40 just to get it to Canon.
Let’s all hope the replacement shutter is good for at LEAST 150, 000 . . . as per their specs.
I wonder what would happen if the shutter fails after warranty . . . does their internal software count shutter usage?
I received my 5D mark 2 on Dec 24.
After few shots Err 20 shows on the screen.
Sent back to dealer for exchange
Hi,
it got me too. I received mine on 24.12.2008 and after a week the first error has shown up: err 20. I tried several things in the settings, like deactivating this permanent sensor cleaning. It got better – that
Just received my 5D2 yesterday and after 9 shots got the Err 20. Nothing could resolve it so it’s going back to B&H. I got the kit with the lens and even the lens has issues. Such as, there is a big piece of crud on the inside
of the front element. And the UV haze filter actually makes contact with the front element when I snug it down. Been buying Canon gear for 25 years and have never had problems like this before.
Hi,
I’m a wedding photographer. I am also a photography trainer at an association and a university. About a month ago, I asked a friend of mine to buy a 5D Mark II from Singapore airport because this product is not available in Turkey yet. I have been getting the Error 30 message since the first day. Environment temperature makes no difference. I tried with different cards and lenses. My battery is charged. I shut down the camera and turned it on over and over again. I took out both batteries and waited. I get the same error in all cases. This is getting more and more frequent. I can now shoot only once in a while. I just did the 1.0.7 firmware update, even though I wasn’t very hopeful. Nothing changed. The worst thing is that I have bought the camera from the other end of the world and I have no chance of returning it. At the moment I do not have a second camera to use. I had to cancel some assignments.
I am one of the first people to buy this camera n my country. People are constantly sending me e-mail asking detailed questions about the camera and my pictures. But I can’t even shoot. I am in total despair and shock. I can see on the web that people who get the same error get no results. What should I do? Have I just thrown my money in the trash? I look forward to your suggestions.
Özlem Karacasu
Hi Özlem,
This is definitely an internal error of some kind. There’s nothing that you can do personally to fix it. You need to send the camera back to Canon on way or another.
Tim
Hi again,
I contacted Canon Eurasia and then upon their advice the Erkayalar Istanbul /Turkey Office to solve this problem seen in Canon 5DmarkII cameras and also in my camera. The staff working at Erkayalar told me that the 5D Mark II is not sold in Turkey yet and that they have never seen it themselves. They also said that they did not get any fault reports from the Central office but they would look into it. They also said that they may ask me to send the camera their service. Erkayalar office is doing this in good faith. Yet at the moment I cannot use my camera and I do not want to send it to be fixed to the service company in Turkey who has never even seen or tested the camera. The idea that the staff will be doing their camera tests on my camera is a deep concern for me.
Ozlem
i sent mine in for a repair, they probably only had it a day or two, its on its way back now. they said they fixed the shutter
I just bought the Canon 5D mark II today in Oslo, Norway from FotoVideo.no. After about 20-30 shots I consequently get the err 30 message. Turning it on/off etc and other advices don´t help. Based on what I read here, it seams to be a shutter problem, and that I have to return the camera. Very irritating.
Hi Guys,
I’ve been holding out on purchasing the 5D MII and just watching the boards for a bit… I had one in my shopping cart from B&H a few weeks ago and it was hard not to pull the trigger then. But I’ve seen more that just a few unhappy Canon Customers… But I will share what happened to me when the CAnon 40D was announced… I was as happy as a pig in shit…. 6.5 FPS and I shoot lots of sports…. and wouldn’t ya know it.. after shooting with the camera for about 3 weeks it started giving me Err 99, of which I found to be a generic catch all error when something bad happens. Well it was bad alright . At a Professional Lacrosse Boston Cannons workout…. the 40D died…. I spoke with USA Tech support which I think is in New Jersey, and those guys are awesome. The had me send the camera in with a prepaid postage and within 2 weeks I was back to shooting… it was a bummer not having my brand new camera, but after a brand new shutter was installed…. life has been good.. I’m a little shy of brand new cameras from Canon now… I’ll wait a bit longer before I pull the trigger to buy the 5D MII… hey… they’re alread out with the first firmware upgrade….
Good luck guys,
Boston_Carl
Got my 5D Mark 2 from Adorama on 1-23-09 Programmed it. Shot a test frame.
Went on location that night and got an error 20 reading the first frame of the shoot. Forced reboot did not work. Lens changes had no effect. Card changes: nope. Off and on: nope. Restored factory settings: nope. Shot the gig on my Rebel XSI backup. The 5D refused to function on any of the various attempts during the hours long shoot.
The next day it cleared and worked. Just sent it back to Adorama for an exchange, 1-26-09. 40 bucks to do that. Not good.

Same problem here with Error 30. New Canon EOS 5D Mark II worked fine for a couple of days then began generating Err 30 messages. Canon says only thing to do is send it in for service.
You also have the choice of returning to the dealer for replacement.
However, I decided to send mine to Canon Service.
I figured the odds of getting a good shutter were better with them testing the new shutter appropriately . . . and
most likely if they have a production problem with shutters they would have the “good” shutters for replacement.
It seems the total time to get it serviced and into your hands is about 2 to 3 weeks.
Same here… err 30. I got mine last week, got off about 5 shots and one or two videos when it failed ..
sent it back to dealer for replacement but after 4 days the dealer has not even confirmed the issue but i am still waiting.
i have a shooting next weekend but i think i will have to rely on my 50d for now, which is too bad since i really wanted to try out my new EF 16-35/2.8 L USM II on that occasion, but without a fullframe body thats out of the question so i got to use my 10-22 EF-
cheers
Got a replacement camera from my dealer after he confirmed the issue and used it heavily last weekend. No errors so far. (Just sometimes i cannot take a look at the last image shot, it appears shortly as always and vanishes again but pressing play does not do anything. Taking another images corrects the error ?!) … so far very happy though, took images in really bad light with flash and without and images at ISO1600 and ISO2000 are absolutely great.
Err 30 on my Mk2 as well, it has been up to 40 degrees here in Sydney but i’m not convinced it’s related to the temperature. Canon Australia tell me it’s a shutter problem and I should send it to my nearest service centre. This problem seems to be getting more widespread…
How long have you had the camera? Approximately how many shots before you started to notice a problem?
So far all the failures I have read about happen fairly quickly after purchase.
Since Canon does not seem to want to tell us how “widespread” the problem is, it’s up to us to try and figure it out.
Most important issue is . . . . the ones (such as mine) that have had the shutter replaced . . . is my new shutter
good for 150,000? Canon appears to be “between a rock and a hard place”, and I understand that.
I will be at the PMA show in Las Vegas in 4 weeks . . . I am going to see if anyone at Canon is willing to talk.
If not, I will go to the Nikon booth as see what they have to say about Canons shutter problem on the 5D Mark 2.
Let me know what Canon say at PMA, they seem to be keeping very tight lipped about the problem at the moment. My 5D Mk2 has around 400 actuations over 6 weeks before i got the error, a lot of people seem to be having problems much sooner though.
me too. got my 5d mk 2 yesterday
same problem as you ERR 30
it is going back to the dealer
I do not want a repair
I want a new camera body.
Hi,
by the corresponding sound the shutter failure has something to do with the mirror .. flopping ? To put in, take out the battery preliminary helps, however I also want to know what to expect in the near future… the back shipping to London based retail could be either expensive and replacement time bounded too..
Any news, Canon attitude and hints appreciated and welcome…
I just got an ERR 30 today. I called canon and they told me to send it in after about 2 min on the phone, I’m pretty sure the guy was working up the order the moment I told him what the error was and the model. I just mailed it in 2 day air with insurance for $22 via Fedex (employee discount!)
But someone asked how many shots had been taken. I’ve probably only taken less than 1500 shots before it did this, which sounds like a lot more than most people.
I would much rather them replace the whole camera and not just my shutter, but oh well… btw – BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! I got a Mack warranty which is fairly cheap from Adorama, it just gives me a sense of comfort knowing I have a 4 year warranty now.
Hi there,
I have already described my “experience” with error 30 in DP, however want to share with you what I have found out… The error does nothing to do with the weather or batteries nor lenses. The issue is connected to shutter release, maybe in conjunction with mirror. In case you shoot vertically as recommended in manual you can not take the second picture without error 30 message. If you turn the camera 180 ° it works perfectly, also if you change the shootting postions.
Attended PMA in Las Vegas yesterday.
I questioned 4 Canon people and none of them had heard of the error 30 shutter problem with the 5D Mark 2.
I then went to the Nikon booth and 3 of them had never heard of the problem.
I also met a Canon dealer who said he had never heard of the problem, however he said he
knew of a small cruise ship with a lot of photographers and 7 of them with 5D Mark 2′s had failures.
My conclusion: they are indeed shipping a lot of new 5D’s, but the percentage with the error 30 problem is pretty low.
I also think it’s more than a trivial problem for them and they are doing their very best to keep the details quiet.
I hate to be a party to spreading “rumors” and I did get more info about the cruise, but since I didn’t take written notes
I don’t want to provide anymore details. If I didn’t consider it a true story, I wouldn’t have repeated it.
Important to note: NONE of the 4 Canon people expressed ANY interest about the error 30 problem . . . . I consider that VERY SUSPECT!!
I spoke with each of them in private (no potential clients within hearing range).
Hi,
I just got my 5d MKll and I’m getting the same error. So far turning it on and off helps but it repeats every 10-20 shots.
Bummer, I’m in New York for just 5 weeks of shooting and really wanted to use the new camera – not have it in the shop!
Thanks Mel for the PMA talk information. I have already contacted the Calumet dealer and Canon repair centre in Slovakia. They said that they successfully removed/repaired several “error 20″ problems in 5D MK2,s but have no idea what is behind the “error 30″. In any case, together with stamped warranty I will deliver the camera for repair/exchange. Will let you know what the Repear centre found out…
Hello…
I am the next one with an ERROR 30 thing on an almost brand new EOS 5 D Mark II and so far I did not find any solution – I
probably need to get it to the service in Czech Republic or Germany. Thanks for your informations.
With kind regards
RischaardX
Dear friends,
as promised before I am reporting on the resolution of my camera “error 30″ problem. I have sent my camera to Canon repair centre in Bratislava, SLovakia. The repair took just 7 days – the bad news is that they replaced the shutter without a single question. The good news is that they did it in 7 days. So it seems that the “error 30″ is a rather rare production line problem that Canon do not like to widespread the word about… The only resolution of the problem seems to be the shutter replacement in Canon certified official repair service center. Best skills at any light from Kosice …

My 5Dm2 was a Christmas present, and was fine with 100′s of shots in Boston in January. On a shoot in Nicaragua I had error 20 right away. I returned it to Canon and they replaced the circuit board (no shutter repair). It was fine again in Boston, for several shoots and 1000′s of images. In Arizona last week in the cool sunrise desert it was fine, then in the heat of the afternoon the same day it failed again. AAARGH! Just to test, I stored it in my a/c room and it returned to normal function, then out by the pool in the shade (95 degrees F but in the shade) it started malfunctioning intermittently. Off to Canon for a (hopefully) repair. Anyone out there have heat-related error 20 or 30? (shooting is not possible…etc). This time they paid for UPS shipping to their repair facility. Not a great start for Canon with this Camera.
Update – After the second repair (shutter replacement) I used the 5Dm2 for about 5 months, hot and cold weather, no problems. Then, just when I was preparing to shoot Halloween in salem, MA, I got error 20 again. AAAARGH! I have learned not to relay on the 5Dm2 professionally, so I had a backup body ready (my 1DsM3 – flawless). The body is back at Canon now. Guys, this camera is a LEMON! Mine is going up for sale as soon as I get it back.
I got my 5Dm2 earlier this year, had one ‘err 20′ after a couple days but didn’t pay much mind. Then a few weeks later it started happening frequently and then stopped taking photos entirely the night before I was leaving for a trip! It went in to service and was back a week later just in time for a weekend trip. The very same day it got back it had ‘err 20′ again. It limped along through the weekend with a few resets, and then went back for service.
It’s been 3 weeks since I sent it in.. In total I’d taken around 200 photos. My old 10D has always been rock solid, so this is really disappointing.
i got mine a month ago, firmware 1.07, worked fine until two days ago, around 300 shots by that time…
and then i got error 70, everything got frozen for 5-10 seconds with suggestion on the screen to remove battery and re-install it…didn’t even do that but continued shooting like nothing happened….
anybody with similar experience?…
I have been reading these posts on the 5DMarkII; but I have had a similar problem with Err 30 with my new 50D. I have searched and not found anything about this model. I have yet to contact Canon. My first err30 happened after about 500 cycles. It seems more frequent with one of my older batteries, and a change in battery seemed to help this weekend. I have seen that Canon has an alert regarding counterfeit batteries. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=227&modelid=12812&keycode=2111&id=48267
I will add this to the blog as another possibility. However, I have noticed this happens more when I am shooting rapid fire and or vertical to horizontal quickly.
Hi Joe, and possibly other unhappy 5DMK2 owners interested
I really do not have enough time to chat on technical issues any more however as already stated before the sign of the shutter related problem “error 30″ is the mailfunction of the camera during vertical/horizontal positions. The only solution sadly seems to be the shutter exchange in Canon authorized problem. I suppose that in most reputable services they are already aware of the “problem” and can replace the shutter in less than 5 days. My camera after the shutter replacement works perfectly in any weather conditions. The two batteries last “forever” and has nothing to do with error 30 issue..
Good luck
Gejza
I got my 50D a month ago, I bring it over to Germany during my trip, and the most frustrating day came to me… got an “err 30″ when i was about to use my camera in the airport!!! Called canon service center and the good service man just told me, “kindly bring your camera to our sevice center in Singapore”
Error 30 for me too. Two weeks in Tahiti shooting surfing. Big swell comes. Worlds greatest surfers. Click. Error 30. Dead, Dead, Dead. On a boat with a group of guys shooting with a range of Nikons, their laughs only temporarily muted by the machine gunning of their shutters as I stared at my dead Canon and the moment being missed. In the end I had to get another 5D mk2 body flown in from LA that night. Not cheap. If I didn’t have so much Canon glass, I’d be tempted to make the switch to Nikon and almost did anyway. 5D Mk2 is a great camera but reliability seems like a big issue. I’d come from two weeks shooting in sub zero in Greenland with two weeks in between in London, so I was wondering if temperature differences played a part. Interesting thing is that the shutter / mirror sound on the new body is so much ‘tighter’ than on the old body which is a bit ‘slow’. Battery grip also started going mental in Tahiti with phantom button presses being registered, even when the grip was turned to the off position.
Still…at least there’s the firmware 1.1 to play with…now if we could just get 25 fps so that us Europeans can actually USE the HD we shoot. Come on Canon…you know you Can.
Hello, my name is manfred
Was searching for err 30 in net, found your site.
I am from Germany, bought mine in February 2009.
On first Shooting, after 400 Shots err 30.
Nothing worked. Dead.
Brougt back to shop, was forced to send in service.
Camera came back after about 4 weeks. Did not pick it up.
Wanted new Body and not the repaired thing.
Got promised by shop, would get new one.
Now repaired Camera is in shop and me waiting ever since
for new one to come in.
Shop says, delivery problems. ???????
Any tips from you would maybe help – taking repaired or wait for new one??
Hi All,
Paul here from Australia. After a longgg wait and lots of thinking and saving up my hard earned cash I finally got my 50D yesterday. I could not wait to get going with it as it has been a while since I used an SLR and I am eager to pick up my old hobby. Soooooo charge that battery, insert the memory card, insert the battery into the camera, attach my lense: do everything by the book (of course). I turn on the camera and take my very first shot. Cool the sound of a “real” shutter. Then the second shot and… what the?? Err 30 appears on my screen with no explanation other than Cannot shoot and please take out the battery, put it back. Hmm I try the solution. 1 shot ok and Ouch, another Err 30.
Needless to say I am very unhappy that my very expensive “toy” is having this problem. I am even more unhappy that a problem that appears to have started some time in 2008 (in a 5D) still occurs in July 2009. Obviously something is not right, but Canon have not done much to resolve the issue other than ship a stack of shutters out to various parts of the world. Well, I will be going back to Harvey Norman today complete with all bits and pieces of packaging and I will not leave till I either have a brand new camera in my hands (that is tested and shooting properly) OR a full refund — let’s hope they are as willing to comply with my demands as I am to write them down here (if not, there’s always the office of Fair Trading).
Hi All,
Me again (Paul from Oz). I took my 50D back to HN yesterday and am glad to say that, after stomping my feet and standing my ground (and citing some NSW consumer law) I have gotten a refund. Good for me, but much to the disgust of the sales people of course
I will be starting all over again now reading reviews and tests of (non Canon) cameras. Does anybody have any tips for another camera with similar specs and functionality?
Cath from Oz, I am fighting to have my 5D mark11 repaired free of charge. Err 30 has they tell me is rare, I do not think so now??? What right do I have?? Help
Same problem and apparently no solution except send it back to Canon…
What a disappointing buy …
*sigh* Add me to the list. 30 or 40 test shots and BAM… Err 30 and no more goodies. :-/ $2700 paperweight. Will be sending it back to B&H tomorrow for a refund or exchange assuming they are agreeable. Failed within an hour of me starting to use it.
Put the camera into manual sensor cleaning mode and was surprised I couldn’t see the sensor… the shutter was jammed shut. Nice. Thanks a lot, Canon.
Here’s a picture of my error message.

I’d just like to add that my 5dm2 has performed excellently since I bought it in December. However the link above is anpother person with the same error.
Hi guys… POSSIBLE solution. I have been suffering with error 30 on my canon 500d. Try changing mode to “M” and changing the time thing to “bulb”. Sorry, not major on my camera terminology. Hope u know what I mean… But this has worked for me… Just held the button down to take a photo for 3 seconds – seemed to do the trick… I think it has something to do with the shutter getting stuck… Mabey wrong… But try it?!!
I have a 500d and have the same problem.. i guess all new models are having this problem.. i have had it for more than a month though, i just wish i had it earlier since i am currently far from any canon repair/ dealer.. i guess if thats the only way to have it fixed then i might as well send it to canon for repairs..
Same here. I bought 500D (18-55 Kit) from Germany (amazon.de) with help a family member. She brought it with her last week and yesterday I took my camera. Everything was great but today it gave me this “Error 30″. I tried everything, no change. I just took about 200 photos.
I called Erkayalar (Canon Eurasia Service in Ankara/Turkey) and I said I have Canon Eurasia Guaranty paper, but they said there is no guaranty, because Turkey is not a part of European Union, to benefit from guaranty you should buy it from Turkey. Great! They said first you should send it to Germany to benefit from guaranty. I contacted Özlem Karacasu (8th post) and she said it cost about 150€ to fix it, they changed the shutter and it solved. I guess sending to Germany and waiting cost more, I’m not sure. Ahhh, damn it!
Update – After the second trip to Canon for error 20 repair (1- circuit board replacement – didn’t work 2- shutter replacement – worked) I used the repaired 5Dm2 for about 5 months.
Just purchased a 7D, on day 2 I received this Err.30 as well. Very dissapointing!
Is the only option to send it to Canon for repair? I bought it from B&H.
Great to find this forum here on this topic.
The first time i use my Rebel T1i, Error 30 pops up.
So disappointing.
Same problem here. And the worst news ever: I have no warranty here in Brazil. I’m not a professional photographer and only used my 5DMK2 a few times. Now I have a US 3,600 (the price for the body here) black brick.
Canon 5D Mark II +2009-2010+ R.I.P.
I have a Canon T1i/500D and I get this problem when shooting in the cold (less than 5′C). Simply turning it off and on or removing and inserting the SD card gets it working again, but after a few shots it happens again.
Sigh. Looking for a solution.
Same problem here with Error 30. Canon EOS 5D Mark II worked fine for one year and half, approximately 10.000 shots, I always used original batteries and lens. I sent it to service… still in warranty luckily.
The same problem here with a 5Dmkii that works fine one year and 7 months, but two days ago, I received the “Error 30″ message when I tried to enter to live view mode. The camera can’t complete any shoot and sounds slightly different. Tomorrow I will send to canon, but I suspect that I can have problems with the warranty period here in Spain.
So disappointing.
I got it back one week ago, they changed everything that was mechanic inside, luckily in warranty, so I did not pay anything. Now the camera works well.
For all, it could be interesting to have a look to this link:
http://www.petitiononline.com/Canon5D/
It is about AutoISO issues with the 5D II.
I have had same ERR30 in my 7D, well I have installed firmware 1.2.3, although it is not for fix directly this error, it seems that it is a temporary remedy.
After I installed the firmware (another hard job, ´cause the cam turned off before start the process)if you experiment that the equipment even go to ON, my recommendation is, release the main battery, with the battery out.. put the switch in off, then in on, and after that install the charged batt (with the switch ON)after close the cover, the cam will go ON.
well, when the cam finally install the new firmware, turn it off and remove any lenses, turn it on again and switch to live mode, go to factory resets and after turn to OFF try to shot with your lens.
Mine one is working fine now… this is not a final solution, just a remedy, we are still waiting the new FW
that´s all folks
7D here in Seattle purchased 6.1.10.
Error code 30 1.21.11
Battery replacement worked for a few days with intermittent Err30 popping up. Now Err30 on every shot.
Bringing in back to Kenmore Camera for warrantee repair request tomorrow.
Will update later as this seems to be the best Err30 on thread on the net right now. Thanks for hosting.
Eric
Any luck on your 7D got that code too
After remedy, explained in the November 11th post, my 7D is still working fine
waiting also for new FW
regards

ok so this does work??? no more erro code 30?
same for me on an early 5d mkii, I had a couple of err 30 in the past (before the guarantee end) and turning off and on solved this issue, but today I have tried everything all afternoon and I couldn’t take a single shot… And of course the guarantee is not valid anymore… Thanks
A good 2 years ago I have written here some advices and hints to “fight” with “error 30″. Since that time (after shutter replacement on my 5DMK2) I have bought 7D, a couple of batteries from HK, China that works perfectly and some new lenses. I made dozens of thousands shots…Everything works pretty well.. My only recommendation guys is to carefully look after stamped warranties and in case of “error 30″ within the warranty validity immidiatelly go to nearest repair centre to replace the shutter mechanics on your camera. Some pieces of shutter simply comes out from factory damaged or broken… that is all..
